Beaune, Capital of the wines of Burgundy. Every year on the 3rd Sunday of November, the famous wine auction of the Hospices the Beaune takes places in the city center, and it is the place to be for Burgundy wine lovers! This is the world’s most important charity auction, hosted by a celebrity who will also be in charge of bids for the main “pièce” (300 bottle wine barrel), an exceptional wine whose profits will go to local charities. 3 intense days of festivities await you all around the city.
Beaune is in the middle of the “Route des Grands Crus”, or Grands Crus wine road, where over 600 winemakers are willing to open the doors of their cellars to introduce you to Burgundy wines.
Beaune, Cultural city : There are many monuments and museums to visit, such as the famous Hospices de Beaune, the Notre-Dame basilica, the wine museum, the Fallot mustard factory... and just a few km away from Beaune several wine based attractions such as the Imaginarium, the Château du Clos Vougeot, Château de Pommard, Château de la Rochepot... There are many beautiful places to discover!
Every summer for the past 25 years takes place the International Baroque Opera Festival (one of the most prestigious in Europe), an event that perpetuates the musical tradition of the Duke of Burgundy’s court, one of the most beautiful and lavish of the 15th century. Let's not forget the Rock festival in June, Jazz in September, Blues Boogie in December...
Beaune, Cinema city, is the native town of Jules Etienne MAREY (born in 1830) who invented filmmaking.
A Retro-Movie festival, dedicated to Charlie Chaplin, takes place every year since 2008 in August. Beaune also inherited in 2009 the International Thriller Film Festival after Cognac.

Beaune, a city of lights: Since April 2010 you can discover Beaune by night thanks to a small route mapped out by over 150 lights all throughout the city center. 30 monuments and bastions are also lit up around the city. The Chemin des Lumières, (lights trail) is also equipped with new technology that allows you to follow an audioguided visit throughout the town by downloading the different comments onto your phone.

The climats of the Burgundy vineyards
The “Climats” or Climate vineyards of Burgundy (plot of vines, or group of plots) are applying to be in the UNESCO World Heritage List. The Grand Crus wines from the Côtes de Beaune and the Côtes de Nuits represent the identity of the vineyards, their history and heritage.
The objectives of this candidacy are :
- Contribute to protecting our natural and cultural heritage
- Raise awareness about the exceptional value of these vineyards
- Promote and manage a valuable asset
- - Transmit this heritage to future generations
- Share the universal values surrounding this heritage
